Coaching & Performance

Purpose

This qualification focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to assist the delivery of sports or physical activity coaching sessions under the direct supervision of a more qualified coach.

An ideal entry point to employment in the sector for those looking to advance their coaching and become involved in professional coaching.

This qualification is for those who wish to become involved in coaching, and to have responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of an annual coaching programme. It can be an entry point to coaching, depending on the ability and confidence of the learner. It is directed at learners who have an interest in sport and physical activity.

This qualification could lead to learners completing sport-specific coaching qualifications at level 3 or above. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used enable them to progress to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.

Who is this course for?

For those who wish to become involved in coaching, and to have responsibility for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of an annual Coaching Programme.

You’re currently operating unqualified and wish to gain recognition of their coaching practice.

This qualification could lead to learners completing sport-specific coaching qualifications at level 3 or above. The skills and knowledge developed through this qualification may also be used enable them to progress to other industry- relevant qualifications in coaching sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.

This is for you if you wish to improve their generic coaching skills.

Course Experience

Phase 1

Complete associated tasks within their qualification portfolio. This will involve:

  • Completing a participant/player profile
  • Designing and planning an annual / seasonal periodised coaching programme for a participant or team, based on the outcome of the participant/player
    profile.
  • Producing a minimum of 8 coaching sessions, ideally lasting an hour in
    duration.

Once these elements are completed, you will submit your portfolio to us. This will be
assessed by an assessor, and we will provide you with feedback.

Phase 2

Deliver 1 x 40-minute physical activity /sport session in their own environment. This can be selected from one of the eight coaching sessions produced above. This should be videoed and sent to us for assessment. Feedback will be provided by a Coach Developer.

Phase 3

Deliver 1 x 40-minute physical activity /sport session in their own environment. This can be selected from one of the eight coaching sessions produced above. This should be videoed and sent to us for assessment. Again, this will be assessed, and feedback will be provided.

Registration is valid for a 3-year period. Therefore, learners could complete phase 1 initially and then progress onto phase 2 and 3 when appropriate. Re-assessment fees would be applicable if learners were deemed not yet competent in either phase 2 or 3.

Learning Environment

This course focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to plan, deliver and review a series of linked and progressive sport and physical activity coaching sessions, either working independently (if over the age of 18) or as part of a coaching team.
